Understanding Before Interpreting

At Interpreter Training Group, we believe one of the hallmarks of exceptional interpretation is a thorough understanding of the language being communicated.

Every day, court interpreters are called upon to interpret conversations involving legal concepts, investigative procedures, forensic terminology, and specialized professional language. While a dictionary may provide a definition, it cannot always explain the context, intent, or significance behind the words being spoken.

Our educational philosophy is founded on a simple principle: the more an interpreter understands about the subject matter, the better equipped they are to accurately convey the speaker's intended meaning.

For this reason, our courses extend beyond terminology alone. We explore the investigative processes, courtroom procedures, legal concepts, and real-world situations that give language its meaning. By understanding the context in which words are used, interpreters are better prepared to recognize nuance, preserve intent, and deliver accurate interpretation in even the most complex courtroom settings.

We do not teach interpreters how to interpret—they already possess that professional skill. Instead, we seek to expand the knowledge that supports interpretation by providing practical insight into the environments, terminology, and concepts encountered throughout the justice system.
