In 2011, I started developing continuing education programs for court interpreters because I saw a need for training that went beyond definitions and glossaries. My goal was, and still is, to provide practical, real-world education that interpreters can immediately apply in their professional work.

Throughout my career, I worked extensively in a variety of law enforcement, investigative, supervisory, and court operations assignments, including specialty work involving homicide, narcotics, and crimes against persons investigations. I also collaborated extensively with judges, court administration, attorneys, interpreters, and other justice system professionals. Those experiences gave me a firsthand understanding of how language is used throughout the justice system and reinforced a principle that continues to guide my teaching today: understanding the words is important, but understanding the context and intended meaning behind those words is what allows true communication to occur.

That's really where the Interpreter Training Group comes from.

Our courses are designed not only to teach terminology but to help interpreters understand the context behind the language. We explore what investigators are doing, why they're doing it, how cases develop, and how words and phrases are actually used in real-world settings. Because in my experience, understanding the intended meaning behind a statement is just as important as understanding the words themselves.
